California Energy Systems for the 21st Century (CES-21) was a public-private collaborative program that ran from 2015-2019 and explored the next generation of industrial control systems (ICS) cybersecurity.

New Context’s Contributions

  • Maturation of STIX Version 2 which allows for easier viewing of patterns behind malware and attack campaigns to include specific protocols, attacks, and remediations.
  • Development of a Threat Monitoring Appliance (TMA) for test beds, which allows for detection of realtime simulated attacks by converting observables into STIX and taking automated response actions.
  • Validation of work with Idaho National Laboratory SCADA test beds.
  • Supporting simulations at scale with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in their High Performance Computing environment.
